DIY Necklace Hanger

So I have been looking for something to hang my growing collection of necklaces on. I usually just have them in a big heap in my jewelry box, but that presents a problem when I actually am trying to look presentable and put together for the day and I have to spend an hour untangling them from one another. So I went on a search and found some ideas on the internet that I could try myself. I started gathering the items with not a very clear idea of what I was actually going to do, but I had faith that something would work out. I bought a cheap picture frame at the dollar store and got some burlap and screws at Wal Mart for a couple of bucks. Then I went to work. I first took out the glass from the frame and broke off the cheap plastic pieces on that back of the frame. Here are the broken pieces from the back of the frame and the glass I removed.

I started playing around with some ideas and ultimately decided to hot glue to screws to the top of the frame since the frame is plastic and not wood so i could not actually screw them in. The hot glue worked out well. Then I cut out a piece of burlap that fit the size of the frame and hot glued it to the back of the frame. After several glue burns on my finger, I got it all put together and looking good. I then added that a burlap bow to one side of the frame when some of the frame had broken off.

And voila! A beautiful and functional jewelry holder. I love how it turned out, especially since I really had no idea what I was going to do when I began the project. Here is the final product:

  1. Cute idea. I have been formulating a plan for a necklace hanger as well that will probably involve command hooks on a glass frame. I will let you know how it turns out when I have time to actually make it. And one for earrings too.
